Step-by-step guide to converting OpenAI GPTs to an AI app using the Assistants API

Do you already have a killer custom GPT that you've made and want to distribute it as an app to monetize to a new audience?

Follow this guide to convert your custom OpenAI GPTs to OpenAI Assistants and easily transform them into AI apps using Databutton.

Convert your GPT into an OpenAI Assistant

Step 1: Open OpenAI GPTs edit page

Visit the GPTs Explore page, click your custom GPT, and click the Configure tab.

Step 2: Create a new OpenAI Assistant

Visit the Assistants page in a new tab, and click the “Create” button on the top right.

Step 3: Copy GPTs fields to Assistant

Copy the Name and Instructions from the GPT to the Assistant.

Step 4: Upload Knowledge files

If you have uploaded Knowledge files to your GPT, upload them to the Assistant under the Files search tool. Make sure to turn on Files search as well.

The assistant auto-saves, so you can just start using it right away!
